Terms of Service

Please read these terms before booking a home safety assessment. By requesting a call or scheduling a visit, you agree to these terms.

1. About Senior Home Safety

Senior Home Safety is a service of Novo Industries Inc., an Alberta corporation based in Calgary, Alberta. We provide residential home safety assessments for seniors and their families in Calgary and surrounding communities. References to "we," "us," or "our" in these terms refer to Novo Industries Inc. operating as Senior Home Safety.

2. The Service

Our service consists of the following:

Initial call: A free, no-obligation phone call to discuss the situation, answer questions, and determine whether an assessment is appropriate. No fee is charged for this call.
On-site assessment visit: A certified Senior Home Safety Specialist (SHSS) visits the home and conducts a comprehensive assessment covering safety across all rooms and categories. Most visits run two to three hours. The flat fee covers the full visit regardless of duration.
Written report: A detailed written report delivered within three business days of the assessment visit, including prioritized findings, specific recommendations, cost estimates, a phased two-year capital plan, and applicable government funding program references.

3. Scope of the Assessment

Our home safety assessment is a visual and measurement-based evaluation of the home environment conducted by a Senior Home Safety Specialist. The assessment identifies potential hazards, makes recommendations, and provides cost estimates based on professional judgment.

The assessment does not constitute and should not be relied upon as:

A structural or engineering inspection
A building code compliance review or certification
A clinical health assessment, occupational therapy assessment, or medical opinion
A contractor estimate or construction quote
A legal document or certification for any government program

Recommendations in the report are advisory. We recommend consulting qualified contractors for installation work and licensed health professionals for clinical assessments.

4. Booking and Scheduling

Submitting the contact form on our website initiates a request for a call. Submission of the form does not constitute a confirmed booking or create any obligation on either party. A booking is confirmed only after we have spoken by phone and both parties have agreed on a date, time, and fee.

To complete a booking, someone must be present at the home during the assessment to provide access and answer questions about the occupant's daily routines. That person may be the occupant, a family member, or a designated caregiver.

5. Fees and Payment

Our service is priced as a flat fee per assessment, confirmed during the initial call before any visit is scheduled. The flat fee includes the on-site visit and the written report. No additional charges are added after the fee is confirmed, except as follows:

Travel supplement: For homes located outside Calgary city limits, a travel supplement may apply. This will be confirmed before the visit is scheduled.

Payment is due upon delivery of the written report unless otherwise agreed in writing. We accept payment by e-transfer, credit card, and cheque.

6. Cancellation and Rescheduling

We understand that situations change. The following cancellation terms apply:

Cancellation with more than 48 hours' notice: No charge. The booking is cancelled at no cost to you.
Cancellation with less than 48 hours' notice: A cancellation fee of 50% of the agreed assessment fee applies to cover the assessor's time that cannot be recovered.
No-show (assessor arrives and cannot access the property): The full assessment fee applies.
Rescheduling: You may reschedule your assessment at no charge with at least 48 hours' notice. Rescheduling with less than 48 hours' notice is treated as a cancellation and rebook.

If we need to reschedule due to circumstances on our end, we will contact you as early as possible and offer a replacement date at no additional cost.

7. Report Delivery

The written report will be delivered within three business days of the assessment visit by email in PDF format. If you require the report sooner, please let us know at the time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate the request.

The report is prepared for your personal use in making decisions about the assessed home. The report may be shared with family members, caregivers, contractors, or health professionals involved in the occupant's care. The report may not be resold, published, or used for commercial purposes without our written consent.

8. Photographs

During the assessment, photographs may be taken to document findings referenced in the report. By booking the assessment, you consent to photographs being taken of the interior and exterior of the home for this purpose. Photographs are used only for the assessment report and are not shared publicly or with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for more information on how photographs are stored and can be deleted.

9. Liability Limitation

Novo Industries Inc. carries comprehensive liability insurance covering all assessment activities. Our liability to you in connection with any assessment is limited to the fee paid for that assessment.

We are not responsible for:

Any falls, injuries, or losses that occur before, during, or after the assessment
The quality of contractor work performed based on our recommendations
Changes in conditions in the home after the assessment date
Decisions made by you or the occupant based on the report's recommendations
The outcome of any government funding application supported by this report

10. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising from these terms or from the provision of our services will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alberta.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Changes take effect when posted to this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of our services after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
