Bathroom safety.

Bathrooms combine hard surfaces and water with the movements that get harder with age: sitting down, standing up, and stepping over the side of a tub.

A bathtub with a towel bar on the wall and no grab bars
Six grab bars, or two?

The report says where each grab bar goes and why, based on where the person actually sits, stands and steps. You will also see which ones you can skip. We don’t sell or install grab bars, so the number is never padded.

What we check in the bathroom.

Every finding is photographed and, where it has a dimension, laser-measured against CSA B652 reference points.

  • How the person gets in and out of the tub or shower, and on and off the toilet, so grab bars go where hands actually reach.
  • Towel bars and soap dishes being used as grab bars. They are not built to hold a person’s weight.
  • The height of the tub wall to step over, and the height of the toilet, measured.
  • How slippery the floor and tub are when wet, and whether bath mats slide.
  • Whether shower controls can be reached from a seated position.
  • The door: its width, which way it swings, and whether it could be opened from outside if someone fell against it.
  • Lighting, including the route from the bed to the toilet at night.

Fixes the report often recommends.

These are examples, not a package. The report recommends only what this home needs, and says when something can wait.

Grab bars at transfer points

Only where the person stands up, sits down or steps in, fixed into solid backing.

A handheld shower and bath seat

So bathing can be done sitting down.

A taller toilet or raised seat

Less effort and less strain standing up.

Non-slip treatment and a night light

Low-cost changes that often rank near the top of the list.

How each fix is priced.

Every fix in the report gets its own Calgary price from our cost index: the typical time the job takes, published trade rates, and current prices for mid-range parts. It is a planning figure, not a quote, so you know what a fair quote looks like before you call anyone.

You choose who does the work: any contractor, a handy family member, or nobody yet. The report ranks the fixes so the highest-value ones come first.

Nothing to sell you after the visit.

Free assessments are usually paid for by the renovation or equipment sold afterward. We sell no products or renovations and take no contractor fees, so every recommendation is about what makes the home safer, including what you can skip.

The rest of the home.

The visit covers every room, not just this one: 143 checks in 12 categories.

An honest answer about the home. Nothing to sell you after.
