Kitchen safety.

Most kitchen risks are about reach: the plates on the top shelf, the step stool kept by the fridge, the pot handle over a lit burner.

What we check in the kitchen.

Every finding is photographed and, where it has a dimension, laser-measured against CSA B652 reference points.

  • Where everyday items are kept, and how many of them need a step stool or a deep bend to reach.
  • Step stools and chairs being used to climb.
  • Stove controls: whether they are at the front or behind the burners, and whether they are easy to read.
  • What happens if a burner or kettle is left on, especially where memory is changing.
  • Smoke alarms near the kitchen, and whether a fire extinguisher is within reach and usable.
  • Lighting on the counters and at the stove.
  • Floors, mats and cords in the walking path.

Fixes the report often recommends.

These are examples, not a package. The report recommends only what this home needs, and says when something can wait.

Moving everyday items into easy reach

Often the most valuable change in the kitchen, and it costs nothing.

Pull-down or pull-out shelving

Brings high and deep storage within reach.

A stove auto shut-off device

Turns the stove off if it is left on, a common recommendation where memory is changing.

Under-cabinet lighting

Light where the work is done.

How each fix is priced.

Every fix in the report gets its own Calgary price from our cost index: the typical time the job takes, published trade rates, and current prices for mid-range parts. It is a planning figure, not a quote, so you know what a fair quote looks like before you call anyone.

You choose who does the work: any contractor, a handy family member, or nobody yet. The report ranks the fixes so the highest-value ones come first.

Nothing to sell you after the visit.

Free assessments are usually paid for by the renovation or equipment sold afterward. We sell no products or renovations and take no contractor fees, so every recommendation is about what makes the home safer, including what you can skip.
